There are 203 rooms in total, each with its own uninterrupted view across the sparkling Mediterranean Sea from a private terrace. Set across 230 hectares of olive groves and countryside, the rooms are in two distinct types of building, Courtyard and Landscape, which are woven subtly into the landscape and offer a real sense of privacy and space. Natural materials such as stone, sand, wood and cane echo the traditional architecture of Sicily, and rooms make imaginative use of both outdoor and indoor space. Created by Olga Polizzi, The Rocco Forte Hotel’s Director of Design, the interiors are beautifully appointed and encapsulate The Art of Simple Luxury. Bedrooms feature four-poster wooden beds, polished concrete floors and artful Italian lighting, and are decorated with locally fired earthenware. The bathrooms are naturally lit with stone vanity tops, and some have outside courtyards with lemon trees.

Situated on a hidden stretch of Sicily’s sun-drenched shores, Verdura is lucky enough to have 1.8km of coastline. Walk down from your room to the beautiful sandy beach flanked with grass areas leading right down to the beach. Swim out on the azure waters, and you will have a clear view of the resort nestled into the landscape, with the terracotta roofs and church towers of nearby Sciacca in the distance. Guests can relax with a refreshing cocktail from the beach bar, play a game of beach volleyball or take to the water to enjoy the great range of non-motorized water sports available, such as sailing, windsurfing and stand up paddling. Situated at the heart of the resort, the pool is one of Europe’s largest, at 60 metres long. Water cascades down from one tier into the next and infinity-edge views look out to sea. Lifeguards ensure that it remains safe and secure for children and adults alike.

Location

THE VERDURA GOLF AND SPA RESORT IS AN ALL YEAR AROUND DESTINATION

Verdura Golf & Spa Resort is situated on the south-west coast of Sicily 15 minutes from the attractive seaside town of Sciacca. Set in a valley of olive groves, the luxury resort is 40km from the ancient town of Agrigento.

Sicily enjoys a blissful Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and warm springs and autumns. Even February, the coolest month, has average temperatures of 13°C, which means that any time of year is suitable for a golf holiday or a rejuvenating spa break. If you want to go sightseeing around the island’s legendary historic and natural sites, October–November and March–June are reliably warm, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 26°C. July and August are blessed with glorious sunshine, and average temperatures of around 28°C. Whatever the season, Verdura’s beach will never get crowded.

A short drive away is the picturesque seaside town of Sciacca. You can explore its medieval alleys and baroque churches, find a seafood restaurant for lunch, then relax on one of its many sandy beaches. Every February it attracts people from all over Italy for its Carnival, one of the biggest in the country and a dazzling parade of colourful costumes and giant papier-mache figures. Further south along the coast is the ancient town of Agrigento, founded in 582BC by Greek settlers. Here you will find the unforgettable Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with the remains of eight Greek temples. In July, their illuminated columns make a beautiful backdrop to the annual Blues & Wine Soul Festival. Another spellbinding ancient site are the Ancient Greek temples at tranquil Selinunte. You can also soak up the simple pleasures of the countryside around the resort. Explore vineyards, olive and lemon groves, or find your own secret sandy cove. And don’t forget to take advantage of the resort’s 1.8km stretch of private coastline.
