Puglia is an Unforgettable Destination

Puglia (or Apulia) is Located in the south of Italy bordering the Adriatic Sea in the east, the Ionian Sea to the southeast, and the Strait of Òtranto and Gulf of Taranto in the south. The Puglia region is a long, narrow peninsula, mostly occupied by plains and hills, apart from some lower mountains of the Southern Apennine chain and the Gargano promontory, with high, steep cliffs. Puglia is a gem for visitors looking for relatively non commercialised regions of Europe to explore and holiday in
Puglia covers approximately 7,500 square mile and has a population of only 4 million. Italy has mountainous areas in the north and north west, but Puglia is mostly a plain land where farmers produce olives (and olive oil), grapes (and wine), cereals, almonds, figs, tobacco, and livestock. One interesting fact about Puglia is that this sunny Italian town produces about 70% of Italy’s olive oil and the area is the richest in Italy for archaeological findings.
Puglia was originally inhabited by an Illyric population, the region was always a strategic area for Mediterranean peoples, and since early times was colonized by the Greeks, who founded the colony of Taranto, then in the 4th century the Romans began their conquest of the territory, and built the Via Appia to connect it to Rome. Puglia’s strategic location made it a target for conquering and colonization by Byzantines, Saracens, Greeks, Romans, Normans, Swabians, Turks and Spaniards, among others.
Puglia is exceptionally sun-soaked and dry, with a scarcity of fresh water, so water is carried by aqueduct and pipeline from Campania, largely drawn from the Sele River.
Paulia is the perfect base from which to discover an area rich in history. The area also has an adjacent world-renowned 18-hole San Domenico Golf Course, the Egnathia Spa, and a whole range of endless activities at Borgo Egnazia make it an unforgettable destination.
Borgo Egnazia is set amongst 20 hectares along the Puglian coast of Southern Italy, in the style of a traditional Apulian village. Borgo Egnazia was created using traditional craftsmanship blended sympathetically with the local architecture and history that typifies this undiscovered region of Italy.
The Borgo Egnazia resort has 28 villas (spread across 7 separate buildings) all have 3 bedrooms. They represent the most luxurious and exclusive accommodation at the resort. Outside, each villa features a terraced garden, private pool and wrap around balconies which make the most of the stunning views. Activities and sports are high on the agenda at Borgo Egnazia: a dip in one of three pools of crystal clear water, a thrilling match on the three tennis courts or golf course, adventure, spa, entertainment and culture.
All year round Borgo Egnazia promises endless sports and interesting activities, and expert tuition in most sports.
